On the Farm
It’s still so hot and dry! We’re really in need of some rain. Maybe we need to do a rain-dance!?
This is what happened to our plum trees that were laden with fruit:
Most of the plums have shriveled up and are falling off because of the drought. There are no damsons at all either. I couldn’t believe it, as some of the trees are near a pond!
The gooseberries bushes, blackcurrants and tayberries are okay. They set most of their fruit before it got very dry. I do suspect they will not be in season for very long as the drought means the fruits are falling off already.
We’ve started irrigating the veg plot, so the onions, courgettes, beans, squashes, carrots etc. should start growing again in maybe a weeks time. Fingers crossed! The barley next to the veg plot are doing okay. The plants aren’t very tall so we’ll not end up with much straw from it, but that’s the least of our problems.
One massive benefit is that the weeds are also struggling!
Apart from the problems with the dry warm weather we’re carrying on tidying and trying to stay cool!
