On the farm
The windy and wet weather has had good and bad effects on the farm this week. The windy weather will have been a nuisance for many, but for us it was very welcome because it helped dry the ground so we could finally harvest a good proportion of our potatoes that were still in the ground. It’s a good crop this year! There is still more to harvest, so hopefully we’ll get some more suitable weather conditions.
After the windy weather we had a lot of rain, which meant that since today (Friday 20th October) the cows are now inside full time until spring. This means a change in diet for the cows. They will no longer be able to graze on fresh grass. Their indoor diet consists of silage and straw. This means you might find that their milk tastes a bit different.
We’ve also started cutting the veal and next week we’ll start on cutting the fresh beef. The meat page will keep you posted on what’s available.
