On the Farm
This week has been a busy week for us. We were busy getting in silage in last weekend and making the most of the weather working our hay. Monday was a day of unexpected arrivals. We had set some duck eggs in our incubator to hatch as most of our ducks had either been taken by a fox or had died. They were not due to hatch for a couple of days but they had already started to chip away. We have had a good amount hatch so hopefully this will mean we have duck eggs available again by the end of the year.
On Monday evening as I (Tom), was about to start milking when I received a call from Iris, who had gone to the hospital for a check up, to say that she had gone into labour early. As neither the milking or the hay that was ready for baling could wait, I said I would get there as soon as possible. Fortunately, Will, who has been with us since the end of last year, was able to come and milk the cows. This meant I could go and bale the hay before going to the hospital to welcome our daughter Katelyn into the world.
The rest of the week has been busy too with Chris, Andy and Myself all working in the butchery the last few days cutting up the front end of the beef animal. There is more meat available now, beef mince, braising steaks, diced shin and diced beef, but it may take a couple of days for me to get it on the meat page. Please just ask if you want any of these.
