On the Farm
The farm land has been drying up nicely lately, so we managed to get our cow muck spread onto our fields. Cow manure contains a lot of nutrients that will help the grass to grow well. Contractors have also been to plough some of our fields, ready for sowing crops that we will use as part of feeding our animals during winter. The bit of land where this years vegetable plot will be has also been ploughed.
Hopefully it won’t be long before we can plant our seed potatoes, onions sets and and a lot of seed in our freshly ploughed veg plot! (Carrots, beetroots, parsnips, etc).
The greenhouse is ready for seedlings, but it’s still too cold at night so we’re having to wait until it’s warm enough. For now we’ve sown some seeds in a heated coldframe inside. Once the weather warms up they can go in the greenhouse, having had a head start inside.
The fruit bushes have started to come alive and have flower buds in them. The plum trees are in blossom and the apple trees aren’t far behind!
However it will be a while before there is fruit ready as it needs time to grow yet!
Chris and I (Iris) will be cutting the front end of the beef animal that went in for slaughter a couple of weeks ago tomorrow (Sat 15th April).
This will include braising steak, mince, diced shin, diced beef, spare ribs and rib eye steaks.
We will update our Meat page as soon as possible.
The rear end will be cut the week after.
