Weekly update

Seasonal fruit and veg
The week commencing Monday 3rd October we should have the following available:

  • Potatoes
  • Salad potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Beetroots
  • Tomatoes, mixed sizes and varieties (what ever is ready at the time)
  • White onions
  • Red onions
  • Raspberries (weather depending)
  • Cooking apples
  • Fresh bunched parsley (curly/ flat leaved)

On the farm
We’ve had another busy week with a few projects.

On Saturday Chris and I (Iris) spend most of the day in the butchery cutting up a veal calf. A lot of this meat has already sold out! What’s left is advertised on our Meat page.

Yesterday  Chris and I will be cut the front end of a beef animal, hence the late post! The rear end will be done the week after. So fresh grass fed Jersey beef is coming soon! Once we have the meat available it will be advertised on the Meat page.

There are also some alterations being done with regards to our cooling system for the white room where we make our live natural yoghurt and ice-cream. We’re installing a new ice-bank tank for cooling down our yoghurt and ice-cream. This should cut down cooling time, which will be great. More time to do other things! It should also cool down the milk faster which in turn should increase the shelf-life of the milk.

There are still some potatoes to get up, onions to dry and some animals to move into another field. The field the animals are in at the moment will be ploughed soon and re-sown with winter barley.

The milking cows are now inside at night, but are still going outside grazing during the day. You might notice a slight change in the milk as their diet has changed to straw/ silage at night. This will make the milk more creamy.
