Weekly update

Seasonal fruit and veg:
The week commencing 11th July we’ll have the following available:

  • New potatoes
  • Gooseberries
  • Blackcurrants
  • Cucumbers
  • Turnips

Spinach and courgettes are currently not growing  due to the cold weather ( I don’t blame them!). They might be back in stock later in the week depending on the weather.

For prices and availability please see the seasonal page

It’s been a fairly quiet week on the farm.

There are no more cows due to calve for a about a month. We’ve got 14 newborn calves all doing well.  Unfortunately most of the calves born are bulls, which isn’t a good thing if you prefer to milk them! We got 3 heifer calves, the rest are bulls. Some of the bulls we’ll keep for veal and some we will keep on for beef.

We’ve made some more silage this week for winter feed. This time we cut our arable silage. This is different from normal silage. Arable silage contains more goodies like peas.  It was a bit of a dash to get it all in before the rain came, but we managed to get in all in although it did get a light shower on it.
